Learn how to cross country ski at our Saturday free ski lesson!
This beginner lesson teaches the basics of cross country skiing, including classic diagonal stride and/or skate skiing, hill climbing and descending, and turning. We even teach you how to get up after you fall down!
Each lesson ends with a mini ski tour to Trapper’s Cabin, where skiers can purchase hot cocoa and relax by the bonfire. Adults and children are welcome.
If you need to rent skis for a nominal charge, please sign in at the rental desk no later than 10:15am.
This lesson is free and lasts approximately 1 hour.

The fourth annual Hanson Hills/XC Ski HQ Paintball Biathlon Series welcomes men, women, and kids to compete in this 2-day event, combining cross country skiing with paintball target shooting.
There will be a Citizens Race (3 laps and 3 stations) and an Open Race (5 laps and 5 shooting stations) each day. Sunday’s racing will follow a double elimination match racing format. Paintball guns will be provided.
Saturday’s races are at Hanson Hills at 7601 Old Lake Rd in Grayling, MI.
Sunday’s races are at Cross Country Ski Headquarters at 9435 N. Cut Rd. in Roscommon, MI.
Schedule:
9:30am – Registration starts
10:15am – Paintball range opens for practice
10:30am – Race Start
12:30pm – Chili Lunch served (Sunday only)
1:30pm – Awards
Entry Fee: $15 one day or $25 both days
*For each target hit, we deduct 10 seconds from the skiers’ finish time. Can’t come for both days? Don’t worry; there will be prizes for single-day winners too! Paintball guns provided.
